Free Anti-Virus Software:

On their website click the Download Now button. Make sure you choose "AVG Free Edition". There are many attempts to have you download a free trial version but it will eventually expire. During the installation make sure you choose free basic protection.

ALERT: AVG Free Anti-Virus has been a very popular download online because it is free and offers great protection. It has been brought to our attention that there is a fake anti-virus program named "ANG" (that is the letter N in the name) causing confusion.

The creator spreads advertisement on insecure websites that present the same logos and "look" as the authentic AVG software to trick you into downloading it.

Free Spyware Removal Software:

After installing Mallwarebytes be sure to fully update the software before you perform your first scan. If it finds and removes any threats we suggest that you run the scan twice more rebooting the computer between scans. We have had success with this software removing some stubborn threats that anti-virus software reports but cannot successfully remove.

  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Visit http://www.download.com and perform a search for Spybot and you can download it free.

Free Online Virus Scanners:

Even if you currently have anti-virus software running on your computer feel free to perform an online scan simply as a "second opinion". Free online scans are able to search and possibly remove viruses infecting your computer, however, they are only good for the moment you run them and are meant to attempt a repair after your computer is infected.  For this reason must maintain updated anti-virus software to continually looking for virus threats in order to prevent infection.
